Fulbright in China

Worldwide Fulbright Programs
Only requested applications will be considered

Asian Scholar-in-Residence
The Asian Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program brings visiting scholars and professionals from abroad to lecture at U.S. colleges and universities for one semester or one academic year.  The program is especially appropriate for small liberal arts colleges, minority-serving institutions, and community colleges, many of which do not often have the opportunity to host visiting scholars.  Based on university requests for scholars in a particular field, Chinese professors are selected by nomination.  Up to 6 Chinese scholars participate in this program, yearly.

New Century Scholars
New Century Scholars (NCS) The New Century Scholars Program (NCS) launched in 2001 brings together 25-30 outstanding research scholars and professionals from the U.S. and abroad to collaborate on a topic of global significance and universal concern. Chinese scholars have participated in two of the three NCS programs to date.  The research theme for 2005-06 is “Higher Education in the 21st Century: Global Challenge and National Response.”

Alumni Initiative Award (AIA) for American and Chinese Fulbright Alumni
The objective of the Fulbright Alumni Initiatives Awards (AIA) Program is to help translate the individual Fulbright experience into long-term institutional impact.  To this end, the program provides small institutional grants to Fulbright alumni to develop innovative projects that will foster institutionally supported linkages and sustainable, mutually beneficial relationships between the Fulbright scholar's home and host institutions.  As of 2004, China has been successful in obtaining two AIA grants to support the establishment of a university-to-university linkage.
