Fulbright in China
Fulbright Grants for U.S. Citizens
The Fulbright Program in China for Americans includes both Lecturers in American Studies and Researchers and Students in China Studies. The current budget allows for up to 20 Lecturers and about 30 Researchers and Students per year. CIES in Washington and the U.S. Embassy in Beijing in conjunction with the Chinese Ministry of Education and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) coordinate recruitment and placement of U.S. Lecturers, while the New York and Beijing Offices of IIE alongside CSC work together to attract and negotiate Chinese university affiliation for Fulbright Students. The Educational Exchanges Office, part of the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy, strives to manage and maintain the quality of the entire Fulbright Program in China through its own staff and its contracted agencies.
The Fulbright Senior Specialist Program is a relatively new program that supports short-term travel for specific projects. While the Council for Internationl Exchange of Scholars (CIES) manages this program, the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and its Consulates submit their final recommendations.
