STEPHEN WICKMAN
Mr. Stephen Wickman joined the Foreign Service in 1985 as an Economic Officer. His assignments have been as follows:
1985 – 1987 U.S. Embassy Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Economic Officer
1987 – 1989 Worked at the American Institute in Taiwan on consular affairs
1990 – 1992 U.S. Department of State, Office of Bilateral Trade Affairs, Economic Bureau
1993 – 1997 U.S. Embassy Seoul, Republic of Korea, Economic Officer
1998 – 2000 U.S. Embassy Beijing, Economic Officer for financial affairs
2000 – 2002 U.S. Department of State, Office of Korean Affairs, Chief of the Agreed Framework Unit
2002 – 2003 Attended National Defense University
2003 – 2005 U.S. Department of State, Deputy Director of the Office of Japanese Affairs
2005 – 2006 U.S. Department of State, Chief of the Bilateral Trade Office of Trade Affairs for Asia, Africa and the Middle East, Economic Bureau
2007- Consul General for the U.S. Consulate General Shenynag
Mr. Wickman graduated from Eckerd College in 1975 in East Asian studies. He has a Master’s Degree in International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a Master’s Degree in Strategic Affairs from The National War College of the National Defense University. Mr. Wickman worked as an editor at the American University Foreign Area Studies Division before joining the Foreign Service in 1985. He also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in South Korea. He is married to Phyllis Wickman, and they have one son and one daughter.
